  1. A few years back I used a very rudimentary 'social story' for a boy with severe FAE/FAS, before I really had a solid grasp on how to write SS. Everyone thought I was a genius with my stick figures and talking and thinking bubbles, not to mention the fact that we got results in understaning and behaviour. Very exciting and inspiring. I finally saw Carol in person last fall and it brought everything full swing !! Onward ho !

  2. Congratulations on the success you experienced along with your student! Both Social Stories(TM) and Comic Strip Conversations(TM) (also available at www.thegraycenter.org) can be excellent strategies for increasing understanding, which as you noted, may also end up changing behavior. Thanks for letting us know!

  3. I, too, have had great success in writing Social Stories using Carol's template and am always amazed and gratified to see real change in behavior when children are introduced to this type of therapy. Our school has a changing population of kids with special needs as well as kids that need repetition. Often teachers will need a story quickly (or repeatedly), so I have begun a "library" of Social Stories that we can quickly access. It's a binder with a plastic page protector for each story; copies are kept in each protector and additional ones are run off when the supply gets low. I have an index in the front, with the stories listed in alphabetical order by subject ("Touching", "Hitting", "Losing", etc.). This makes it quick and easy for anyone to find the right story.

  4. What a great idea for "recycling" Stories to make them easy to find and re-use when needed! I find that it's also a great way to celebrate success when students are able to review past Stories. Thanks for sharing!
